Fr Nicholas King

Nicholas King is a Jesuit priest, who teaches New Testament at Oxford University after many years of teaching in South Africa. He was educated at Stonyhurst and St John’s College, Oxford (where he read Classics) before joining the Jesuits (his original intention had been to practice at the Bar).

He has written a number of books, including "Setting the Gospel Free", a popular account of liberation theology in a South African context, "Whispers of Liberation" an introduction to feminist study of the New Testament, "The Strangest Gospel", a study of Mark's Gospel, and, in 2004, "The New Testament Freshly Translated", a translation of the New Testament into English. The double aim of this translation was to capture the freshness of the original documents, and to make each author sound like himself.

Nick loves teaching the New Testament; he is currently working on a translation of the Old Testament, and to keep himself out of trouble plays a good deal of Squash and Cricket for St John's. He is also the brother of Michael and Richard King. the application and requirements of the Charities Act 1993 and managing the process of transferring assets between charities and corporate trusts.
